This short clip is a glimpse of us mining Herkimer Diamonds at Crystal Grove Diamond Mine just outside of St Johnsville, NY. For those of you who may be unfamiliar, Herkimer "Diamonds" are a form of clear quartz that sometimes develop double terminated crystals. Good specimens form loose in a vug, or pocket, without attaching to the dolomite that surrounds them, resulting in perfect 6-sided "football shaped" forms that are water clear.
