Clear plastic bags can be used to insulate perennial plants over winter in a mini green house. Each layer of protection essentially moves the plant one climate zone south, improving the chances of it surviving the winter. The outer layer blocks wind and creates a pocket of warmer air so the inner layer can stay above freezing.
