I explain what the terms mantissa, exponent and sign bit mean in terms of the IEEE single precision (32 bit) standard. I include in my description which bits are used for each of these three parts. (Note: error in a slide shows bit #22 through bit #0 for the mantissa as counting 24 bits but it should be 23 bits.)
