Israel's Finance Ministry has granted a license for the country's fifth desalination plant to be built in the coastal city of Ashdod.
The reverse osmosis plant in the Mediterranean coastal city will produce 100 million cubic meters of desalinated seawater a year, comprising 15 percent of Israel's household water use by 2013.
Israel plans to have five such plants up and running that will supply 75 percent of the country's drinking water within the next two years.
