Phenolphthalein is a known "indicator" in chemistry titrations and is a white powder. Place a little bit of Calcium Hydroxide on your hand and add a pinch of Phenolphthalein. Then rub both your palms vigorously. Surprisingly, the white powders when mixed and rubbed turn a fierce red -- almost crimson. This is obviously because of a chemical reaction.
