When shopping for a dust collector or cyclone, manufacturers quote airflow ratings in cubic feet per minute (CFM). But airflow is affected by resistance (or static pressure) created by the filter, ductwork, etc. So to get a true picture of a dust collector's performance, a fan curve--which shows how the CFM at a varaity of static pressures--helps you get the right dust collector for your shop.
When we test dust collectors head-to-head, here's how we develop a fan curve for each model.
